Icons in your system tray (bottom right icons) that you didn't install.

Programs asking permission to access the Internet from your personal firewall.

Computer running slow when you have few or no programs open.

Computer opens programs slowly.

Computer stops responding for no reason.

Solution

Programs may have installed themselves without asking you.

Check the "startup" folder in "program files" and remove any unwanted shortcuts.

Right click the icon in the system tray and open the program and adjust the "settings" to not start on computer boot.

Check the registry entries run and runonce.
